Saturday morning I got up at 4am....I was concerned about the drive to the "bark" event and wanted to get the GPS from P and pack my stuff. I hit the road with Rosie at 7am. Seems the worry was silly as the trip was uneventful and we were amoung the first to arrive. Set up was quick...and we walked around and chatted while everyone got ready.
The very first gang I ran into was the group from Green Mountain Pug Rescue. Wow, what a wonderful group! Here's one of the lucky rescues....what a sweet guy he was..... Another pic of the sweet guy! How could anyone hurt that face?????
I can not say enough good about this group. Their love of Pugs goes deep and any Pug rescued by this group is lucky indeed. Lisa's Turbo came from Green Mountain and I'm sure she can attest to what a great group they are. Of course I did some shopping at their booth.....
The entire day was very emotional. There were all different rescue groups there. People would stop and talk about their rescues. Each story sadder than the first. I met blind dogs, dogs with no teeth, no jaws, missing feet, missing leg, on and on. The horror of some of the conditions there furry ones came from unspeakable. I spoke at length with a woman and her mom, who were holding a mother and daughter Chihauhua pair..mom was 18 daughter was 15. Neither had all their teeth, they were both gray, but honestly they were so sweet. The daughter goes to the dog auctions. I asked her how she does it and she told me you have to concentrate on the ones you can save. As she spoke her eyes filled with tears....
We packed up and headed home around 4pm. Rosie was exhausted from her day. When we got home the gang was happy to see us. Marty wanted to check out the cookbook I bought from the Green Mountain group....
Really do you see the size of this cookbook???? $20.00 what a deal! Stop over to their website and check it out!

Just reading about those poor rescue pugs brought tears to my eyes. I can't even go to the local animal shelter without crying, I cannot imagine being at such an event all day. But I am so thankful for people like you and all the others who rescue those poor little dogs. Thanks!
Oh, those stories just break my heart...and make me want to do a few unspeakable things to the people that injure those animals. I'm so glad you could participate in that event!
I would of loved to of come up for the rescue event, but the cost of gas in traveling is not allowing me to do much these days.
Hearing about rescue stories can be just so heartbreaking sometimes. It's rewarding though to know that they are safe now and get adopted by good homes in the end. Working in rescue myself, we see all sorts of things. I just don't know how anyone could hurt an animal in ways that I've seen and heard about.
That's some cookbook there!
It was so great to see GMPR. Mom used to do home inspections for them before life got a little too busy, with karate and all. Mom's pug group raised almost $1000.00 for them at one event (mom can't remember exactly. But she does remember that they raised $383.00 from Hug A Pug with Lucky as the most Hugged Pug!
As for the puppy mill people themselves, don't get mom started. GRRRRR.

Wow, what a great event. I think it's so wonderful that these groups save those fur babies and find good homes for them...makes me want to take in more. Your booth looks great.
The event sounds wonderful.
A couple of years ago, I thought about working undercover to go to puppy mills but after seeing some stuff on the net, and bawling my eyes I thought I might not be the best person for the job. I have lots of respect for people who can be out at the auctions etc.
How the Heck did I miss this Post??????????????????????????????? Isn't GMPR the greatest! I Love karen! and Marge and Carol and heck I love them all for doing what they do. I hope to see you in September at the Social!
