Dog tired, sun burned, and hot

Busy weekend at camp. Friday afternoon we went into town for dinner. It was early (4pm), but we hadn't eaten since breakfast and were hungry! We were the only people at this cafe.

My daughter gives me a funny face.

When we got back to camp, the girls were behaving, even Rosie!

Friday night we went to see DaVinci Code and didnt' get back in until 1am. Saturday there was a big "welcome" picnic. Afterwards we put our boat in and went for a nice ride. We didn't take the girls, per my daughter's request. She wanted the hubby to drive like the wind! I need both hands for that. Later in the day Saturday, my daughter went to visit friends for overnight and we went to Walmart. Now even though the hubby hates Walmart, we went there and managed to spend a tidy little sum. Back to camp to hang out some more. Sunday my daughter returned, the hubby went fishing with a neighbor and the neighbor's wife and I had some laughs. I supervised her gardening and afterwards hunted down a blender and made the three of us Strawberry Daqauris.

Monday early off to do more boating. Took a longgggggggggg ride to our friends cottage. They have miles of sandy beach at their place. We hung out there for a while and then made the return trip to camp. Daughter had to leave at 2:30 to make it home for cheer practice, so we made a quick lunch/dinner and after she left hubby and I took Rosie for her first boat ride. She seemed to like it alot.

We didn't get home Monday until around 8:30pm. I figured out that somehow on the boat I had hurt the muscle in my butt! OMG, I could hardly walk when I got out of the car. We unpacked and I took a hot bath to try to loosen up. Had to be at the hospital this am at 7:30 for pre-op for my surgery. The nurse felt bad taking blood from my sunburned arm! Actually, it didn't even hurt, although I'm sure everyone in the waiting room thought I was there for my back the way I was walking. So tonight it is a tad better. I can still hardly sit down, but hopefully by tomarrow it will be better. I have to be at the hospital at 7:45 am tomarrow, so my daughter is driving me there and hubby will come straight from work. Surgery is at 9:15 am, so I am hopeful to be home by noon, resting with the girls, minus one lump!

Rocks

Okay, here is my addition to "rocks" for http://www.blackbird17.blogspot.com

We have a lot of rocks in our yard...lots. These rocks came from our camp along Lake Ontario so they are not native to our yard.

These rocks are actually part of the foundation of our house. When houses of our type were built, the owners collected rocks from around the property and "utilized" them. I sometimes think that we actually may live on a "rock farm" as everytime I dig a hole to plant something, I come upon a rock.

This rock is a mystery. This rock forms a window ledge for one of the windows in our house. All the other window ledges are formed granite. We were told this portion of our house was built first, so perhaps the original owner had sentimental attachment to this rock?????

Chairs, flowers, and looking out the front door

Here is a photo of my gram's old chair (see Lisa, I have one too). I removed the seat and added a pot. I actually buy silk flowers for this arrangement. I move this chair every year. It is always in a different garden. Here is this year's spot.

Here is a photo of the arbor my hubby built for me. This has also been moved around the yard, but finally found it's forever home 5 years ago. I have been kidding around that my son should get married under this arbor.

Here is one of the two pots at the bottom of my deck steps. I put different selections in these each year too. This year I am going more with the greens and maroons of coleus with some white and pink. I really love the way the white flowers look against the brick and trim of our house.

This is one of the gardens on the south side of my house, along our patio. This garden is angels in memory of my mom. The only thing that ever gets added here is another angel statue. Each of them has some special meaning to me. The most recent was given to me on Mother's Day from my tenant. She knew my mom and knows how much I miss her. Nothing is blooming in this garden, yet!

Lastly, here is a photo looking out my front door. This door faces north. The white building on the left is our carriage house. My parents lived there when I was first born! Straight ahead is our barn. This "was" a working farm when my grandparents bought it in the early 1900's. My father was born here. Our family has seen a lot of changes in this town. We now have almost 40,000 people in our town and we are the fastest growing town in our County.

Finally hit by 50

Well, today was it. I have actually had a very enjoyable few days heading up to 50. My son and his fiance bought me this beautiful white lilac and HAD to give it to me on Saturday! Apparently, "someone" was listening when I was talking about wanting a white lilac!

On Sunday, at our puggy party I got a Joanne Fabrics gift card, frames, and this great dog cot/screen bed for the girls:

I started out today with flowers from my co-workers. My daughter stopped by on her way to class and gave me a great bath set from Victoria's Secret, a flower arrangement and beautiful card. At lunch my boss took my co-workers and I out for a birthday luncheon.

When I got home my best friend in Colorado had sent me a flower arrangment too.

Tonight the hubby planned a little birthday for me. Heck, he even decorated. My best buddy here baked me a super delicious birthday cake and got me this sweet wired angel for my garden. She added a cute and appropriate sign to her hand!

Hubby got me clothes, sneakers, and a beautiful gold necklace! Wow, how could I be anything but happy!!!!

And what party is complete without some good ole Puggy fun!

Celebration of Life - Yoshi!

Today was the Celebration of Life party for Yoshi. Yoshi is one of our pug group and he has cancer. Unfortunately Yoshi's cancer is untreatable, but he is doing well and enjoying his days. His mama wanted to have this party to be happy, not sad. So we all got together for some PUGGY FUN!

It was also a nice time to celebrate my birthday with my friends both canine and human..in fact 25 humans and 24 canines...what a crazy bunch. I am proud to have shared this day with Yoshi - Life is precious!

Pet Expo

Today was Pet Expo. It was held at the arena for the local community college. I volunteered to help out at the dog park booth. In order to have a dog park in our county, it was decided that we would have to have 4 in 4 different parks to be fair to the entire community. The cost for these fenced areas is $52,000, of which $29,500 has been raised. Everyone we spoke to wants a dog park, yet we are caught in the bull of not being able to even have one started...4 or nothing. Hopefully getting the word out this year we will have these areas before summer ends. So, Rosie and I (Chloe and Zoey stayed home) went off to with my best friend and her mixed breed, Lexie. Rosie dressed up, of course. There was a lot of booths there with everything from rug cleaning, to wild animals. They had a pet agility area, and had obedience demonstrations. We bought a new toy, got an engraved heart tag for Rosie's harness and walked around and visited. A lot of our puggy friends were there too. We stayed from 12:30 to 4:00 and Rosie put herself to bed when we got home! Poor tired baby!

Tomarrow is our "celebration of life" party for Yoshi our pug pal that has cancer and my pre-birthday celebration with all my canine and human friends. Hopefully someone else will take photos, as I never seem to take them at events..too busy having fun and talking!

PS Willow & Belle and Family...rain has stopped here, cross your fingers!
Alfred's mom - THANKS for the card!!!! Alfred makes a fine looking card! Sweet of you to send!

Gray skys are gonna clear up.....

Willow & Belle & family! These skys will probably clear up...soon. Maybe not today, or maybe not tomarrow, but soon! Think sunny thoughts!

So, low on creativity today, so I thought I'd share a photo of one of my cats, yes, we have 2 cats. This one is over 17 years old and her name is "Baby Kitty"...she is a crabby little thing! Actually, she just doesn't like Pugs, or any dogs, although sometimes she forgets and actually lets one of the girls touch her!

And here's a photo of Rosie and Zoey, who are actually getting along pretty well. Funny in this photo they Rosie actually looks more true to size. She seems so big for 5 months?????

Flowers

Today I went to look for flowers on my lunch hour. It was pouring rain. There is something strange about looking for flowers, dressed for work, in the rain. I drove to Home Depot first and their flowers looked bad. Then I drove to a farm stand that I drive past each day. I picked out flowers for my 2 huge step planters and bought hanging baskets for my arbor. I thought maybe this year that would be all I would get. I have tons of perenials that bloom throughout the Spring/Summer/Fall and I really felt that was enough..until now. I realized I have 2 more planters on the pool patio that need flowers, another planter on deck that needs flowers, 2 more planters on the patio that is attached to my house, and 2 planters that are sitting in front of the basement windows where I had my hubby pull out the huge, ugly, overgrown bushes...so I guess I am really NOT done buying flowers. Silly me. So, I will buy more flowers and then be done...maybe.

Speaking of flowers, did anyone see these flower "puppy" masterpieces? What a creative idea!

5 more to 50 - yikes

Well, I've keeping pretty quiet over here with my birthday CREEPING around the corner. But, I decided to "let the cat out of the bag" and admit I'M FREAKING TURNING FIFTY! Wow, I said it - phew. Looks terrible in print, sounds terrible coming out of my mouth. My hubby asked what I wanted for this occasion and I said "not to be fifty"....Now, I'm thinking the alternative is not much better. Cripes, I gave my father a 50th birthday dinner party, my mother a 50th birthday dinner party...my hubby a surprise 50th party and I am here to say...NO ONE BETTER SURPRISE ME! I can not possibly keep my house spotless and myself looking fabulous for the next 5 days in anticipation of a "surprise"! So, for now....49 and holding!

Mother's Day Weekend Recap...stop and smell the lilacs

Phew, what a weekend! I have to say that this was my best Mother's Day in a very, very long time. After my mom and both grammies died within 12 months, Mother's Day has been a sad time for me. I know I was blessed with my own two beautiful children, so that made me a Mother's Day recipient, but it just wasn't the same having those beautiful women gone from my life. Over the past 5 years I have learned to avoid card stores. So anyhow, something changed this year. I guess I put my grief away in a little box next to my heart.

Friday night we met my BIL and SIL at the Country Club for dinner. Beautiful setting, great food and tons of laughs. I did take my camera along and tried to photograph my food like Sandy at raguspug.blogspot.com, but quite honestly the food was coming TOO fast and I was eatting TOO much!!!!! Let's just say there were stuffed clams and coconut shrimp on the appetizer bar, the salad bar was dee-licious and the fish was the best I have had in a long time. They removed that ugly skin prior to frying...yummy!!!!! I took half mine home and ate it from breakfast Saturday morning.

Saturday - Got up and made another attempt at the mountain of mulch in the front driveway. I think someone is secretly dumping more mulch there each evening after I go to bed! Mulched the beds in front of our carriage house that we rent out and weeded around my patio garden. We then decided to drive to SIL and BIL to pick up the row boat she was giving us. I love rowing...love it. We do have a power boat, but I wanted something to just row around with the girls. So we hooked the trailor up and took off for the drive. They live on one of the Finger Lakes...get out your NYS maps. It is around 40 minutes from our house. Hubby had not told them I was coming along, so my SIL was thrilled to see me. We have such fun and laughs together. We helped them take the bunk beds from their upstairs to their finished over barn and loaded the row boat onto the trailor. They threw in oars (for me) and a 10 horse motor (for hubby). While there she gave me a complete new ensemble for my king size bed and a HUGE stuffed Pug. She has decided that since this coming birthday for me is a special number (UGH!!!!) that I should celebrate continuously! She has also planned a weekend at the Jersey shore for the four of us in June! She is probably the best SIL anyone could have. We went out to dinner, again, and I did not have my camera. This time dinner was Eggplant Parm..yummy!!!!

Sunday, I got up and my furry girls posed for me on the back staircase....

Aren't they the sweetest!!!

These were waiting for me....

Wow, great gifts...

Yep, right down to the matching shoes! There was also a cardigan and two yummy smelling candles. My daughter gave me a certificate for a pedicure and manicure...wow I am the spoiled one!

Then off to breakfast with my dad, hubby and son. After that we went to the Lilac Festival which is held here in Rochester. Check out www.lilacfestival.com
The Lilacs were exceptionally beautiful this year. It is amazing to look over the park and see Lilacs EVERYWHERE. All shades of purple, blue, white and even yellow!

I leave you with these.............
Can't you just smell them?

Why God made mothers.....

Thought I'd start out this Mother's Day Weekend with some fun stuff said by kids!

Why God made moms" answers given by elementary school age children
to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in
the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use
string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other Mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your Mom?
1. My Mom has always been my Mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did Mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on
beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to
chores?

Why did your Mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof
ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms and dads?

1. Moms work at work & work at home, & dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause
that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your Mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your Mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of
that.
2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it
and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on her back.

THE MOMMY TEST

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off
the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from
her and I asked her not to do that. "Why?" my daughter asked.
"Because it's been laying outside, you don't know where it's been, it's
dirty and probably has germs" I replied.
At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked,
"Wow! How do you know all this stuff?" "Uh," ...I was thinking quickly, "
All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mommy Test. You have to know it, or
they don't let you be a Mommy."
We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently
pondering this new information.
"OH...I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test you have to be
the daddy."
"Exactly" I replied back with a big smile on my face and joy in my heart.

====================

Too cute!

"Dear Lord," the preacher began with arms extended and a rapturous
look on his up turned face, "without you we are but dust..."

He would have continued, but at that moment one very obedient little
girl (who was listening carefully) leaned over to her mother and
asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice, "Mommy, WHAT is
butt dust?"

Church was pretty much over at that point
