Leaky roof

A little over a year ago we had a new roof put on our house. A good friend from camp (who lives in PA) came up and stayed with family and did a complete roofing job. We have a big roof, lots of peaks, levels, etc. The roof was about 18 years old on the main house and only 15 years old on the garage. The areas that faced south had the shingles deteriorating. Anyhow we had the roof torn off. Turns out some spots had as many as 5 layers of roofing. Guess there were no codes in those days! The new roof looked great! Well, recently the north porch of the house, has a leak! That room has a beautiful old tongue and grove ceiling! The leak is horrible and my husband is pitching a real fit. I told him to just go up and check it out, maybe a loose shingle or someplace along the house needing more roofing cement. He said no, he spent a ton of money on the roof and we need to call the person who did it, no matter where they live! I have been holding off as I feel bad since he lives 5 hours away!!! Anyhow, sitting in the upstairs office this morning I hear drip, drip, drip!!!!! Seems the chimney is leaking too!!!!! I emailed the guys aunt and told him the problem and to get a message to him we need him asap! He can make the trip to repair or find someone local to come out and pay for it...what do you all think?

I agree with your husband, they are very expensive.

Id feel bad too calling him, but that's defiently what needs to be done. But make your husband talk to him!!

I'd definitely try to get him to fix it. If there's not written contract or warranty, don't know if it will do any good but at least it's a start. It's a bummer when something so expensive ends up with problems. I hope your wooden ceiling is not damaged from that.

Yeah, the problems are totally the guy's responsibility who did the initial work. Don't feel bad for him to have to come out and fix it.

A roof should definetly last longer than that. I would have no problem calling him back out to fix it.
