Up to my eyeballs in red paint

Because Ihave been bad about pictures of the gang.....

The red paint project is done. Thank goodness. It all started out with a paint chip and pulling at wallpaper..... Then off to Home D*pot for supplies. Pink primer, paint, spackle, sanding block, rollers....
Of course the taking down took a bit. I had forgotten at one point the walls were painted cream. I almost talked myself into being satisfied with it, but afterall I had already bought the paint. So I pulled down the trim and set to the job....

I didn't take any during photos since I was very unhappy with the process. Two coats of mauve primer gave me one strange looking kitchen. Then on to the red....first coat....dismal, just awful. Streaks, see through, horrible. Second coat, not any better. I emailed with Girlville and she told me not to loose faith as her bathroom had taken SEVEN COATS....OMG! At coat three P came into the room and was like "what is wrong with this paint?" We discussed giving in, re-papering, having new paint mixed...but I kept going. All in all the room took five coats. Luckily there were no huge areas since the room is so cut up with doors and cupboards.

Dogs to the left...cats to the right. Notice the cat door to the laundry room. The cat doesn't use it, he pushes the door open. Let's talk about how P feels about the hole in the door!
I tidied up the entry hall too. Moved stuff around.
I took everything off this wall and ended up removing the paper, filling holes and repapering. I took the artwork from here and put it in the kitchen where the hutch was. Now I have to decide what is going here, if anything.
Here's where the small hutch was and now the picture is...

Wow! Five coats! Tony's dad is a professional painter by trade and he hates to use red paint.

Our bedroom took just 3 coats but we made sure we bought red paint from a paint store that uses a red base (instead of a normal clear base) for red paints. WAY better coverage!

Congrats on getting it all finished! WOW! I am exhauasted thinking of you doing all that work. Especially all the prepping stuff. That's no fun.

It looks great!

It looks really good! One thing we found out is that no matter what paint you buy from Lowes or Home Depot, it's still poor paint. You need to go to Sherwin Williams and get paint next time. It will go on a lot easier and take far less coats.

The paint had a deep tone base. I think the grey primer would have helped. Honestly, the type of roller I was using may have been part of the problem.

I have used Sherwin Williams paint in the past. Those stores are few and far between around here. We like the Behr paint and have had good luck with it.

I also bought Satin paint instead of the Eggshell I usually buy and I think that made a difference.

Thankfully it is all done now!

I LOVE it!! It looks so good.

Re: the cat door. Husband sawed a hole in the door leading to the garage for a cat door but guess what, he still leaves the door cracked so they can go in and out. grrr.

It looks great, however many coats not withstanding. It is very nice. Mom hates cream and white, too boring, so red is right up her alley. You should see the boy's room. Orange, pinkish cream, purple and red!

It looks great. You all did a great job. I'm glad you didn't give up. That's funny that the cat won't use the hole in the door. Just stubborn, I guess.

I love red!! I used to have it in our old house and fortunately it only took a couple of coats. BUT, I did once decide to paint a room cream yellow over what was a mauve color and didn't know about primer. It took five coats and I could still see through to the mauve color...but, I gave up since it was the guest bedroom!! ;) No more yellow rooms in my house!
