and on the third day......

Sunday morning we got up and met Anakin's mama in the lobby for some coffee and for J to get her copy of Mister & The Grey Whisker. After chatting for a bit, we loaded up the car and headed out. Now you all might be thinking we headed home, right???? NOT SO! We were planning to make a whole weekend out of the trip, so we headed back to downtown Indy. We located a parking space easily and headed out walking.

Seriously? A restaurant called Weber Grill???? See C up ahead, that girl had her mind on shopping!I on the other hand was admiring the great buildings...and the fact the sun was shining!
The blend of old and new was breathtaking...
After some shopping (where J and I both bought new sneakers and promptly disposed of our old ones in the trash) and a quick bite to eat, we headed back out. We stopped by the memorial, the center? Sorry I should have googled the name? I knew Kelly had her glorious wedding photos taken here and I wanted to see it. J and C let me take their pic to show how big this place is.
We headed inside and saw an elevator. What? We can go to the top???? Your kidding! Now, I'm not too keen on heights, or small elevators, and we saw they were chargins $2 a person to ride the elevator. I believe my words at this point were...."come on ladies, it's only 150 steps...how bad can it be? Why would we need an elevator???" So up we started. We went up and up and up and up and up and up....somewhere around 175 steps my cell phone rang. Now you DO recall I thought the walk was 150 steps? Not so my friends! I think the final step count is 331? I'd have to google that too, although I think C took a picture of that top step, did you C? I tried to talk to P and continue climbing. I could hear C crabbing about me up ahead...how she would have gladly paid $2, blah, blah, blah. Then I reach those darn look out windows and see this...

For the love of Pugs...how the heck high am I???? At that point I decided 1) I could not continue talking on the phone and 2) I could not move another step.....
I had a good talk with myself and went up another 28 steps. Yes, I actually counted the darn steps. I reached the level where the elevator stops and I stopped and waited for C and J to come down. They told me no need for me to go all the way up. They took lots of photos up there. Which I refuse to look at until I can get the fear out of my head.
Traveling down was much easier, although everyone had rubbery legs and we were all wishing we had on bathing suits instead of sweaters and long pants.

That is a longgggggggggggggggg

longggggggggggggggg

longgggggggggggggg way to the top....

We walked around a bit more, stopped in some shops and admired the area.

Then we got back into the car and headed out to meet Annie of KPR for dinner! On the way I tried to get a photo of the race track for my husband....

I didn't do so well! We had a great time with Annie and wished we had more time to visit, but our time in Indy was coming to an end. It was now almost 7pm, so we really needed to get going. It started raining somewhere in Ohio or maybe we were still in Indiana, but it rained for almost the entire state of Ohio. You people that live in Ohio. Sorry, but I hate driving through Ohio. Is there a blogger out there that I can visit to see if I can learn to like Ohio? Are there Pugs in Ohio? If there aren't Pugs, I'm not visiting!
Anyhow, C drove most of the way home. I amused myself in the back seat and tried to take pictures of passing scenery...like that HUGE candle place.....nearly dropped my camera on that one!
We made our stop at Sheetz (J's fav stop) and headed back on the road. We got in about 3:30a.m. Wow, what a whirlwind! The girl's headed to bed and I waited up to greet P and my furry fivesome! After our hello's I headed up to bed for a few hours.
Stay tuned for Monday with J.

That would be the Soldiers & Sailors Monument on Monument Circle - the center of downtown Indy. Most people just call it the "Circle".

If I recall right, I believe that Michael Jackson signed one of those steps that you walked up (don't quote me on that though - I am working from memory and it sometimes fails me :) )

I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay in Indy. FYI - the weather for this weekend, Sunny and warm with highs in the mid 80's all weekend.
