Spring Flower Project

I know it's Spring somewhere, so this weekend I decided to start my hanging plant kit. The cast of characters. Basket, moss, dirt, seeds.....
Start with putting that little moss cub in 4 cups of water. P said it smelled like a swamp in the kitchen....
Wow, water really affects moss......
Next hook the hangers on the wire basket. I decided to hang mine from the cupboard handle to work on.
You have to smash all the moss into the basket. Trust me no easy task as it wanted to fall through the openings in the basket.
Now on to mixing the soil. One bag soil, two cups of water...
Hmmm, think maybe this bowl is not quite going to work......
This will work better.....
You take the plastic bag the dirt came in and put it in over the moss. Next all the dirt goes in (save out one cup) and the seeds are put in. They say to put the seeds in clumps, no more than 50 seed to an area???? Well, I was NOT aboutto count out 50 tiny tiny seeds to I "eyed" it. As I put the seeds in I put the marker of that plant in the area. Then the remaining soil is put over the seeds and lightly misted.
Stay tuned for progress photos!

I think it's hilarious that you put soil in a pot. Just too funny. Good luck with that hanging basket! The picture looks really nice.

I love hanging baskets!!
Is it better to grow it or buy it cost wise?

This kit was only $6.99 at the Chr**tmas Tr** Sto**. I figured even if I killed the entire thing I still had the basket and soil.

Norman, if I lived in Asheville where it was lovely outside (like above 40!)I would make this mess outside...yep, used a pot..you know a little dirt never hurt anyone, right?

It WILL be interesting to see how (if) it grows!

Hope it turns out great!

Wow. That is cool. Please do keep us posted. Mom really wants to see spring flowers. As for the dirt, mom's memere used to say "you're going to eat a peck of dirt before you die!"

That looks pretty neat. Mommy is not talented like that at all -- she would end up adding too much water, not enough soil, too little sun, etc. She just buys the flowering plant at the store.

Yea...I want to see the progress. I like that everything you need came in the pot and you could use the plastic bag, too.

Can't wait to see the progress of the plant. I have only bought them full bloom, never started one from scratch. I will be doing some potting this weekend also. We must be itching for spring that's for sure!
