Stay tuned....

On Friday, April 4 at 4:00 pm EST, OPRAH will air a show exposing puppy mill horrors and working to educate the public on how to stop supporting them through purchases of their “products” at the pet stores. Lisa Ling did the investigation, and was as disgusted and appalled as those of us who work with the dogs rescued from these places. Please spread the word about this episode. Please watch the show, listen to the stories, and open your heart to the atrocities these sweet animals have to live with. Then, take action to stop the mills and the stores that treat animals like cash crops.

I know this will be hard to watch. If you've never seen puppymill videos or witnessed a puppymill dog in person...be prepared.

Thanks for the alert.

Oh, no. I can't watch that. We give money to the Humane Society, so that means we don't have to watch, right?

Indy is a puppy mill dog from Quebec. We were under the impression we were meeting with a breeder and it ended up being a puppy broker. She had about 4 or 5 types of toy breeds in seperate fenced areas in her garage. Indy was the size of a popcan (3 months old, 2lbs) and in a fenced corner with an older pug. I know puppy mills are wrong and we shouldn't be 'helping' them at all. But we honestly couldn't leave her there. We bought her and took her home. The poor thing came with an inguinal hernia, coccidea, worms, luxating petallea and a bit of a feminine issue that means everyonce in a while I need to clean her. (she is mortified when i do it).
I have called the spca on pet stores before (noah's ark) find it heartbreaking when I see pugs in there especially. :( we have almost walked out of some private pet stores with pugs because of their condition but couldn't financially. Its heartbreaking.

I heard about that the other day and set my TiVo to record it.

I will most definitely spread the word about this. It will be so hard to watch, but it is so important to learn what is really going on. Benjamin & Henry are puppy mill pups and they opened my eyes puppy mills. Before them I had no idea about the horrors. Thanks for letting us know.

Mom considers where Lucky came from (a top end breeder) to be no better than some of these places. Lucky's mother was in a cage 2 feet wide, 18 inches deep and 2 feet high. She was let out 1 hour in the am and 1 hour in the pm. It made mom sick. Absolutely sick. Lucky was in a four foot pen for the first 4-1/2 months of her life. She only got attention when she was fed.
That is why I need to love her so much, to make up for that.

there have been a couple of puppy mill busts here in the past year. and then the spca/other shelters take them in and that makes them overcrowded so other strays are turned away. it's just a big fat mess. rescues/shelter pets are the best! i doubt i'll ever get a furbaby any other way.

The pug rescue here in MN sent out a mass emailing about this show. I will be setting my dvr to tape it for sure. It's so sad it's crazy. I know we got Winston from a puppy mill in Wisconsin. I should have known when I asked if we could come up there they said no and when they brought him to us they basically handed him to us through their car window and we weren't the only people meeting them that day. He was just shy of 6 weeks to. He was also advertised as a "miniature pug". Do you see how mini he is?? *eyes rolling* This was all before I knew a lot about puppy mills and pugs but I so will never regret getting him.
