The Great Deck Adventure - Part Three

Off we got with #74 co-piloting

We left early in the morning with gravel and other supplies, stopped at new camp and dropped stuff off....what a beautiful day

Got to old camp and finished cleaning up. Mover arrived and hooked us all up.

Notice the dents on the back...they are from an airborne rubbermaid shed that hit us during a wind storm!

Hubby taking one last wave.

The trip to the new camp was uneventful. When we arrived owner said he would put it on with his tractor, which would be easier and make less of a mess of the ground. Notice he is not actually ON the tractor. Guess he's done this a few times!

My dad and P watching.

and still watching

All in place, what a nice view!

Notice that darn stack of deck....that still needs to be put into place and leveled.

Number 74 resting, he had a good trip!

A BIG THANK YOU to LISA!!!

What a nice surprise! P called to tell me that a package had arrived from New Hampshire. I was meeting him at the hair salon to get a bite to eat, so I told him BRING IT!!!! In the middle of the restaurant I opened it! I drew a lot of attention for sure!

P and I kept turning off the lights the numbers show up really well. The flash of the camera made it seem much lighter. Can't wait to put it in a great spot!

For those of you who read our ramblings you know that both Lisa and I have camps. Now we both have a Pug to show you the way. We'll leave the light on for you!

So many projects, too little time

I think I may have too many projects going on. I still have not moved my computer desk and computer downstairs to my new office (I think I secretly don't want anyone else going in there!). My son's final scrapbook and ALL the stuff I use is all over the dining room table. I am working on more of these (or variations of) to sell......

I have not picked up my quilting all winter. My daughter's scrapbooks are stuck on 3rd grade. My Cape May book is stuck in 1997. I started to paint the doors/shelving in the downstairs bathroom (luckily same color so hard to notice). There are crates of stuff to sort in the front hall outside the "guest" room to sort. I have a bunch of stuff set out to list on ebay. My closet needs sorting from Fall/Winter to Spring/Summer, which includes getting the Goodwill donations ready. (heck how about packing up the whole darn closet and starting over??????) There are 2 boxes on the cupola stairs (which sadly hold Christmas items) to go in attic....hmmmm, guess that's all off the top of my head. Which is ready to blow off if I don't start finishing something soon. Luckily our house is very big and the stuff blends in or I just need stronger glasses, but I really feel the need to simplify. I need a complete day off to crazily run from project to project and finish them all up! I always give myself a yearly deadline. The inside projects STOP when the weather turns nice and I can play in the gardens. Judging by the weather I think I've been given more time to get my act together!

Leaky roof

A little over a year ago we had a new roof put on our house. A good friend from camp (who lives in PA) came up and stayed with family and did a complete roofing job. We have a big roof, lots of peaks, levels, etc. The roof was about 18 years old on the main house and only 15 years old on the garage. The areas that faced south had the shingles deteriorating. Anyhow we had the roof torn off. Turns out some spots had as many as 5 layers of roofing. Guess there were no codes in those days! The new roof looked great! Well, recently the north porch of the house, has a leak! That room has a beautiful old tongue and grove ceiling! The leak is horrible and my husband is pitching a real fit. I told him to just go up and check it out, maybe a loose shingle or someplace along the house needing more roofing cement. He said no, he spent a ton of money on the roof and we need to call the person who did it, no matter where they live! I have been holding off as I feel bad since he lives 5 hours away!!! Anyhow, sitting in the upstairs office this morning I hear drip, drip, drip!!!!! Seems the chimney is leaking too!!!!! I emailed the guys aunt and told him the problem and to get a message to him we need him asap! He can make the trip to repair or find someone local to come out and pay for it...what do you all think?

The Great Deck Adventure - Part Two

Today marked part two of the move....ugh.

Here is a pic of P jacking up the trailer so put blocks under the wheels. After 8 summers it has settled in. Not sure you can tell from the photo, but it was ALL mud. Clay like mud that stuck to everything. Horrible, evil, mud.

I took all the rocks from around the deck and took them to my neighbors gardens to surprise her. After all there was NO way I was moving all these rocks to new camp. Too many, too heavy and I'm just TOO tired!

This is other side of trailer with "slide room" in. This is side my dad used to be on.

There is no pictures for you of me sitting in door opening with mud caked boots crying. P wanted to take a pic and I wouldn't give him the camera.

Yep, there is still snow on the way south to new place!

This is road leading to new place. Looks like Fall instead of Spring.

Almost there.........

One of the views....

The previous rv has been moved. In the distance you can see our pile of blocks that are used to secure the trailer and deck (along with the trailer jacks, of course)

Going back out.

Looking pretty darn gray lakeside!

Looking pretty darn grey bayside too!

We got home 12 TWELVE hours start to finish. Dad and A met us at new place, then we got a bite to eat. When I got home I was so tired I drew a bath and never got in!

A special lady

Today was my grama's birthday. I have been thinking about her a lot the past few days. Birthday's were VERY important to her. She believed everyone should have a cake on their birthday, no matter the age. Many of you know that my mom died at age 61. Her death quick, unexpected, from cancer. My grama was 87. My mom was in the hospital for 14 days. My grama would sit with me by her side for hours and hours. I would drive her home at the end of the day and we would quietly talk about things. She refused to accept that my mother, her daughter, was going to die. She continued to talk about her coming home and taking care of her. One of the hardest things I had to say to her was "gram, mom is not coming home, she's not going to get better". Who would think that a mere 8 months later, my gram would be diagnosed with the same dreadful cancer. I sat by her side, my daughter joining me. She passed at 88 and we never once spoke of the fact she was going to die.

Grama was born in 1913. She was the first born to her parents. Her parents young and in love. Her daddy died when she was 17, her sister was 15 and her brother 13. She never spoke of those years, never. I am sure there are things that happened she just didn't want to remember or talk about and I never pressed. Her mother remarried and presented her with an evil step-father and a baby brother whom she loved. She met my grandfather and fell hopelessly in love. He had come from Canada with him mother and new step-dad. They married and had my aunt in 1930, followed by the loss of a baby boy, and then my mother was born in 1934. I'm sure her heart was breaking when my mother INSISTED on getting married in 1955 at age 16! The following year I was born..a baby to a baby. My grama was only 43. I was her princess. As soon as I could walk and talk I wanted to go with her constantly. There are family movies of me "sneaking" to hide in their backseat to go home with them and sleep in the "princess bed". I grew up with my grama, her sister, brothers, my aunt and us all living in the same block! My great-grandmother lived on the family farm about 2 miles from us all. The days and years were filled with visits, coffee, swimming, and lots of laughter. In 1970 grama's mom passed away. She had a stroke and everyone was shocked. I was 14, my grama was 57. In 1972 my parents divorced and we moved back home with grama and grampa. The house was filled with women and one bathroom..my poor grandpa! We moved out in early 1974 to have a place of our own. Grama was upset, but grampa retired and they kept busy visiting and traveling....one month later, my grampa died of a heart attack, he was 61, just a couple weeks from his 62nd birthday, grama had just turned 60, I was 17. The world was upside down and grama was lost. We packed up and moved back "home" with her. We spent our days....4 females, hurting from our loss and moving on. I graduated from high school and we made my college plans. The days passed and in 1976 grama's younger sister passed away from cancer. Another little piece of her died. In 1983 I presented grama with her first great-grandchild! Her life was renewed! He was "her boy" she was his "grama in the white house". I quit work after his birth and gram spent almost every weekend at our house. We even redecorated our extra bedroom for her and called it "grama's room". Our daughter followed in 1986 and when I moved back to my dad's family homestead in 1987, I was back within a mile of grama. Since I was a stay at home mom, we had wonderful days. My mom, aunt, cousins, laughs, coffee, shopping, just like when I was young. I went back to work in 1996, gram was 83. I started to notice she was getting older, slowing down! I began to realize she was not going to be around forever. It made me sad. She was a wonderful role model. She had a good sense of humor, was afraid of the dark, worried a lot. She drove a turquoise 1967 Mustang until she turned 77. She spent 2 months with my husband looking for a "sporty" replacement, her Dodge Dakota Fastback. She was not afraid to say her mind, give advice, or tell someone off. One of her favorite sayings was "If it's not worth asking for, it's not worth having".....I use that quote myself!
For some reason this week has been a hard one for me. I realized today that I never took the time to mourn my grama, we hadn't even gotten over mourning my mother, when she passed. So this week I have been mourning and missing her.

So grama here's to you on your day!

A diamond in the rough???

On the way home from meetup on Saturday my husband caught sight of this "cycle" in a junk yard. He is always on the look-out for something to dismantle. So he stopped...and made his deal. We went back today to pick it up. Literally, we practically had to pick it up and get it on our trusty little trailer. It is now home in the garage. Here we go again...

There was a REALLY BIG DOG at this junkyard. I don't think he liked me much. His tail was wagging, but so was his mouth. Everytime he caught sight of me...BARK BARK BARK. I was glad to get in our truck and shut the door. I did not take his photo. He looked mean. I doubt his family ever put bunny ears on him!

Pug Meetup

Today was Pug Meetup. We drove to our friend's Meetup in Waterloo NY instead of the local one.

We put down the back seat in the VW and made a spot for the gang. It worked our real good and it was a relief not to have the four of them trying to get in my lap!

Olivia - Rosie's sister

Marty stops for a smile

and we won 1st prize for our Easter outfits! Here are the girl's checking out the prize basket.

Unfortunately, the person who owns 4 Pugs has a hard time taking photos. Hopefully someone there took some more to share with us.

The Great Deck Adventure...or sometimes your just in the right place at the right time

P and I had today off and had plans to go get the deck and move it to the new place. I also wanted to pack up the rest of the breakables for when the trailer gets moved. My dad didn't want us to drive up as a lot of snow was predicted for the area. We have to travel 105 miles east and then north. We promised if it was too bad we would turn around. This is how most of the drive was.

We arrived safely, although temperatures were in the 30's and it was very windy.

We were happy to see our place in one piece, with no winter damage.

P built the deck in movable sections.....

Before...

After......

Very, very cold!

There is the deck all stacked up. What a job. Did I mention my back hurts????

Now for the drive back to new place.

When we got there the owners were excited to see us. The wife asked if we were really wanting site 37. I was a little worried when she asked, but then they told us that just before we got there another couple called and said they have to break their lease. The wife is extremely ill and the "bank" is taking back their rv. Their site is one of the ones at the far end of the place overlooking the bay.

This is a pic of their place. You can see the bay behind it.

Here I am measuring how much further our place will be there. Our rv is about 15 feet longer than the one there. They do not have theirs pulled all the way to the back of the site. This owner places the trailers for good privacy. From here we will be able to see our boat in the dock. I'll be able to look out on the bay and see P fishing.

Looking south, you can see places are nice and far apart. Lots of privacy!

This pic was taken from the roadway. There are four campers in this section.

Lake Ontario is directly behind me in this picture. We will be able to see sunrise and sunset....awesome!

I guess I need new house numbers...........

If dog poo turned into flowers...my yard would be Busch Gardens

This is what it's looking like here in the great North. You'll notice there is NOTHING blooming here. The daffodils have poked up around 5 inches, so hopefully we will have some Spring yellow at some point.

Pug update: Miss Rosie has taken to be naughty. We have our morning ritual of 4 Pugs = 4 bowls of kibble....well, every time one of the dogs would go to their bowl Rosie would run over, bite them and then start eatting from that bowl. She did that repeatedly, until she upset Marty and started a small tussle involving a spilled dish of food. So, she ended up in here with her bowl, which she didn't touch. I call this "Rosie Time-Out". Sometimes she even puts herself in here! Doesn't she look pathetic?

Under the Weather

I've been sick since last Thursday....blah. No fun, no fun. My poor little brain can't concentrate and all the posts I start are DUMB. Lots going on but too fuzzy to post.

So today I leave you with a dog quote...........

"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of ther universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made." - Roger Caras

Hopefully, tomarrow will be better.
